Step 1 • Log in to WordPress
To access your WordPress dashboard, go to your website domain and add /wp-admin to the end.
Log in using your WordPress username and password.
Once you’re logged in, you’ll arrive at your WordPress dashboard.
It’s a good idea to bookmark this page so you can get back to it easily next time.
Step 2 • Create a New Post
From your dashboard, find the New Post button and click it.
This will open the editor where you can create your new blog post.
Step 3 • Write Your Blog
Start by adding your title.
Then you can add your paragraphs and format your content using headings, bullet lists and other formatting options.
When using headings, keep the order logical.
Your main blog title is normally an H1. Your main sections should use H2 headings, and sections within those can use H3 headings.
For example:
H1: How to Start a Vegetable Garden
H2: Choose Your Location
H3: How Much Sunlight Do You Need?
Try not to skip heading levels just because a heading looks better. The heading structure helps both your readers and search engines understand your content.
Step 4 • Add Images and Galleries
You can also add images to your blog post.
You can upload a single image or create a gallery with multiple images.
When using a gallery, you can also change the number of columns to control how the images are displayed on the page.
Have a play with the layout until it works for your content. No actual playing is required. Unless your website has a very generous CMS.
Step 5 • Complete Your SEO
Before publishing your post, you’ll need to complete the SEO section.
Start by adding a focus keyword for your article.
This is the main search phrase you want the article to be found for in Google.
Your SEO settings can also help you control the information that appears when your article is shown in Google search results, so make sure the title and description accurately describe your article.
Step 6 • Add Your Featured Image
Next, set a featured image for your blog post.
This is the main image associated with the article and may appear on your blog page, website listings and other areas of the website.
Step 7 • Select a Category and Add Tags
Choose the appropriate category for your article.
Then add relevant tags.
Categories help organise your content into larger groups, while tags can be used to describe specific topics covered in the article.
Keep both relevant to the content. Your blog does not need 47 tags just because WordPress lets you type them.
Step 8 • Publish or Schedule Your Post
Once everything is ready, you can publish your article immediately.
If you want it to appear at a later date, you can also schedule the post for a specific date and time.
After publishing, a window will appear with an option to View Post.
Click this to see how your article looks on the website.
And that’s it. Your blog post is now live.
If you want to write another article, simply navigate back to your WordPress dashboard and start the process again.
Happy blogging!
